Why We Built GeraTycoon: The Studio Story

Published 21 April 2026 · 6 min read

Quick answer: GeraTycoon exists because the Gera service portfolio is the most perfect built-in world you can put into a tycoon game. We had 10 real industries on day one. GeraCoin conversion to real discounts was the creative bridge that made the idle loop feel meaningful beyond the game.

The brief

Take the AdVenture Capitalist loop (tap, automate, Prestige), replace the arbitrary “lemonade stands” with Gera's 10 real service industries, and reward real value rather than vanity numbers. That was the three-sentence pitch.

The design challenge

Idle games are satisfying because numbers go up. Real-world rewards usually feel flat in comparison (a £1 discount is less exciting than “earn your 10th quadrillion”). Our solution: keep the in-game numbers absurd and add GeraCoins as a separate visible ledger that caps at realistic real-world values. Players get both the dopamine spike and the actual reward.

What we got wrong first

Our first prototype had the in-game currency and the real-reward currency as one thing. Players stopped playing at £100 because they thought they had won. Separating them (game money flies to the moon, real GeraCoins accrue realistically) fixed engagement.

What's next

  • Multiplayer “shared economy” mode where friends' Ledgers interact.
  • Seasonal events tied to real-world Gera promotions.
  • Cross-game: your GeraTycoon company becomes a building in GeraCity.
